Antigua Climate & Weather Averages

Weather Information for Antigua

Antigua enjoys a tropical maritime climate with warm temperatures, abundant sunshine, and reliable trade winds throughout the year. Daytime temperatures typically range from 28°C to 31°C, while sea temperatures remain comfortably warm between 26°C and 29°C, making the island an excellent destination for sailing, swimming, snorkeling, and watersports in every season.

Unlike some of the greener islands in the Eastern Caribbean, the climate expected for Antigua yacht charters is relatively dry, receiving significantly less annual rainfall than mountainous neighbors such as Dominica or Saint Lucia. This contributes to the island's reputation for consistently sunny weather and helps support its famous claim of having a beach for every day of the year. Rainfall is generally lowest between January and April, while the wetter months tend to fall between August and November. Even during this period, rain often arrives as brief tropical showers rather than prolonged periods of unsettled weather.

Like many yachting hotspots of the Eastern Caribbean, Antigua is also influenced by seasonal tropical waves and weather systems moving westward across the Atlantic. From June through November, the island falls within the Atlantic hurricane season, with the highest likelihood of tropical activity generally occurring between August and October. However, Antigua's location and relatively dry climate often mean that many summer days remain warm, sunny, and ideal for enjoying the island's beaches and cruising grounds.

Antigua Wind Patterns

One of the defining characteristics of Antigua's climate is the influence of the northeast trade winds, which provide natural cooling and create some of the Caribbean's most celebrated sailing conditions. These steady breezes are present for much of the year and are a major reason why Antigua has become a world-renowned sailing destination, hosting prestigious events such as Antigua Sailing Week. Wind speeds typically range between 8 and 11 knots, with slightly stronger conditions often experienced during the summer months.

For example, the sea temperature will largely affect how much time you intend on spending in the water trying out your superyacht toys so watersports will want to make sure they travel during the warmest periods. In contrast, some areas may become particularly hot during summer and charterers would be advised to book later to ensure more comfortable conditions.

Although the most popular times to embark on a private superyacht vacation are usually during the peak summer months, there are many different elements to take into consideration before you go. Here we have used our detailed climate data to provide a monthly overview of when might be the best times to visit each destination.

The most popular time to visit Antigua as part of a Caribbean yacht charter is between December and April, when the island experiences its driest weather, lower humidity levels, and consistently pleasant temperatures of around 28–29°C. During these months, the northeast trade winds are particularly reliable, creating ideal conditions for sailing while helping to keep temperatures comfortable both onshore and at sea. This period is widely regarded as the peak season for Antigua yacht charters and coincides with many of the island's most anticipated events and regattas.

The shoulder months of May, June, and November can offer an excellent balance between favorable weather and quieter cruising grounds. Sea temperatures rise to a balmy 28°C, rainfall remains relatively moderate, and visitors can often enjoy many of the same benefits as peak season while experiencing a more relaxed atmosphere around the island's anchorages and beaches.

From July through October, temperatures and humidity reach their highest levels, with sea temperatures climbing to around 29°C. While this period coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season and an increased chance of tropical showers, it also brings warm waters, lush landscapes, and excellent sailing breezes. For visitors willing to travel outside the traditional peak season, summer can reveal a quieter side to Antigua while still offering plenty of sunshine and rewarding conditions on the water.
