Perini Navi Cup 2013 Races Start Today

The fifth edition of the Perini Navi Cup welcomed the 15 confirmed sailing yachts competing to Porto Cervo yesterday for three days of high-octane racing set to kick off today.

Exclusively dedicated to Perini Navi yachts, the regatta is hosted by the prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smerelda and features a coastal course of almost 40 nautical miles around the stunning La Maddalena Archipelago.

The yachts taking part are among some of the largest and fastest sailing yachts in the world, boasting the latest racing technology and designs that the renowned Italian shipyard has to offer. The line-up includes several outstanding charter yachts from the global fleet including: 45m HELIOS, 45m HERITAGE, 37m NORTHERN SPIRIT, 38m P2, 56m PANTHALASSA, 54m PARSIFAL III,  56m PARSIFAL IV, 50m SILENCIO, 88m MALTESE FALCON, 56m ZENJI and the 30m XNOI.

A number of accomplished racers will also be taking part in the event including veteran America’s Cup sailor Dawn Riley aboard Silencio while Volvo Ocean Racer sailor Justin Clougher and Mike Toppa will be aboard the 56m Zenji.

On today’s agenda is the Moncler Grenoble Trophies, followed by Axa Yachting Solutions Trophies tomorrow and finally the Vhernier Trophies and Prize Giving on Saturday to finish.
