P2 and SILENCIO Lead the First Day of Perini Navi Cup

By Editorial Team   30 August 2013

An impressive fleet of 15 Perini Navi sailing yachts took to the waters of Porto Cervo yesterday for the first race of the Perini Navi Cup 2013 which saw charter yacht P2 take line honours and Silencio lead the overall classification.

Setting off from Porto Cervo and bound for the Secca Tre Monti rock, the sailing yachts were accompanied by light winds and the Mediterranean sun throughout. After rounding the rock, they headed upwind to Secca delle Bisce before racing to the finish off the Gulf of Pevero.

The 38m/124.67ft luxury charter yacht P2 dominated the race, keeping comfortably ahead of the competition throughout the course, much to the delight of her Captain Jonathan Kline: ‘This is our first Perini Navi Cup with P2 and we found the conditions we expected, light winds but excellent for P2. We knew we would be able to pass most of the fleet in the first leg but then we would have to extend significantly to maintain the lead.’

The 50m/164.04ft sailing yacht SILENCIO claimed overall victory for the day in corrected time, headed by America’s Cup sailor Dawn Riley while third place went to the 52m TAMSEN. Celebrations were had in the evening organised Vhernier followed by the Vhernier After Race Cocktail Party at Aqua Lounge on the Piazza Azzurra.
