Johnnie Walker Voyager - Luxury Corporate Charter Yacht used to break emerging markets
Since September 2012, the 57m sailing yacht ‘John Walker & Sons Voyager’ was the setting for a series of global corporate charter events hosted by leading distiller Diageo, for the launch of their new triple malt whisky, John Walker & Sons Odyssey. The Asia leg of the campaign successfully achieved its goal of reaching out to a wider international market, made possible by both the luxury and versatility of a charter yacht.
The 2009 built Aegean charter yacht was re-named for the epic world campaign from her previous name of ‘Montigne’ and set sail last September from Shanghai for a six month charter through the Asia Pacific region. In a bid to break into the emerging Asian markets, Diageo wanted to re-create the legendary voyage of the Walkers that saw ship captains act as brand ambassadors and export the famous whisky all over the world.
‘John Walker & Sons Voyager’ stopped at nine ports during the Asian charter to include; China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and India. At each of the ports an international crowd of luxury brand professionals and consumers as well as guests from the worlds of entertainment and sport were invited aboard for a host of high profile and glamorous corporate product launch parties. By celebrating the history and progression of each region’s port, the brand successfully managed to portray the commitment to innovation and ‘changing the game’ that is at the heart of the Voyager journey.
Corporate yacht charters are becoming increasingly popular as an impressive setting for hosting corporate based events that make a big impact on potential clients and consumers. Johnnie Walker Global Brand Ambassador Tom Jones describes the journey as a step away from conventional product launches where success in the modern business sectors is achieved by ‘those who have raised the bar – who have genuinely changed the game’.
After completing its six month charter in Asia, ‘John Walker & Sons Voyager’ then embarked on its European tour to coincide with the summer season, visiting the world-renowned ports of Genoa, Cannes, Monaco, Athens, Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Hamburg and Copenhagen, before finally ending the journey in Edinburgh this month. Among the guests welcomed on board during the European expedition were actors, sportsmen, models and business leaders who have come to define their particular fields, all keen to be a part of this innovative and exciting voyage.
