Expedition Yacht ‘Planet Nine’ opens for Antarctica charters

By Rebecca Bradbury   12 September 2018

The 73m/240ft superyacht ‘Planet Nine’ from Admiral Yachts will be available for charter in the captivating cruising grounds of Antarctica this winter.

Launched by Admiral Yachts at the start of the year, Planet Nine has just finished her debut charter season in the Mediterranean but, after appearing at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month, she will swap the French Riviera for the rarely-ventured waters of the White Continent.

Created for go-anywhere exploration, she will be in her element cruising in this remote region. Her ice-class hull ensures she can deal with sea ice up to around 15 centimetres thick and, with a helipad and hangar, charterers can explore the ice-white wilderness from above on her MD 902 helicopter.

Guests can also get out on the water on one of three custom-built Rupert Marine RIBs designed for extreme conditions. And, thanks to her large proportions, there is plenty of storage space on board to house other water toys for no-end of on-the-water fun and exploration.

There is certainly lots to discover in the other-worldly land of Antarctica, from towering icebergs, dramatic glaciers and the gorge-like Lemaire Channel to incredible wildlife such as Weddell seals, chinstrap penguins, Dominican gulls and humpback whales.

Despite her capabilities as an expedition yacht, Planet Nine is still laced in luxury and this can immediately be seen in her handsome exterior lines

Yet, despite her capabilities as an expedition yacht, Planet Nine is still laced in luxury and this can immediately be seen in her handsome exterior lines penned by renowned designer Tim Heywood.

The elegance then continues into the interior, which was styled by London-based studio Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi (MHZ). Overall, the team brought together a variety of exotic woods and fabrics and created a streamlined, masculine and incredibly comfortable atmosphere throughout.

Highlights include a dedicated cinema in the bow of the main deck, a large beach club with dedicated spa facilities and, on the upper deck, an observatory lounge with sweeping views forward and an inviting main salon designed for dining, socialising and relaxing.

Much of the main deck aboard luxury yacht Planet Nine is taken up by the master suite, which incorporates huge sleeping quarters with sofas and a pop-up television, a library and conference space, a further double bed, a separate office and private outdoor deck space.

The remainder of the accommodation is made up of a VIP suite on the bridge deck with its own private terrace, and four double cabins, a twin cabin and a convertible cabin on the lower deck. In total, 12 guests can be accommodated during a private yacht charter.
