Mallorca Climate & Weather Averages

Weather Information for Mallorca

Mallorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate with long, dry summers and mild winters, making it one of the most appealing West Mediterranean yacht charter destinations. Temperatures steadily rise from spring onwards, reaching daytime highs of around 31°C during July and August, while sea temperatures peak at a comfortable 25–26°C. Combined with abundant sunshine and relatively low summer rainfall, these conditions create an ideal environment for cruising, swimming, and exploring the island's diverse coastline.

One of the defining features of Mallorca's climate is its varied topography. Dominated by the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in the northwest, the island experiences noticeable microclimates that can differ significantly between regions. The mountains help shelter much of the southern coastline, including Palma and its surrounding bays, from cooler northern weather systems, while the eastern and northern coasts are generally more exposed to changing conditions arriving across the Mediterranean.

Spring arrives early for Mallorca yacht charters, with temperatures reaching 20°C by April and climbing into the mid-20s by May. Summer is typically hot, sunny, and very dry, with some months averaging just one or two days of rainfall. Even as autumn arrives, sea temperatures remain warm enough for swimming well into October, while daytime temperatures often remain above 24°C. Winters are comparatively mild, with temperatures generally ranging between 15°C and 17°C during the day, making Mallorca an attractive year-round destination for visitors seeking sunshine and outdoor activities.

Mallorca Climate Charts

By using our extensive climate guides for each charter region throughout the world, you can explore in-depth weather information for each month and work out which time will suit your individual needs.

For example, the sea temperature will largely affect how much time you intend on spending in the water trying out your superyacht toys so watersports will want to make sure they travel during the warmest periods. In contrast, some areas may become particularly hot during summer and charterers would be advised to book later to ensure more comfortable conditions.

Although the most popular times to embark on a private superyacht vacation are usually during the peak summer months, there are many different elements to take into consideration before you go. Here we have used our detailed climate data to provide a monthly overview of when might be the best times to visit each destination.

The most popular time to visit Mallorca is between May and September, when warm temperatures, low rainfall, and long daylight hours create ideal conditions for exploring the island by charter yacht. During this period, sea temperatures steadily rise from 18°C in May to around 26°C in August, while sunshine levels regularly reach 10 to 11 hours per day.

For many visitors exploring the region on a Mallorca or wider Balearics yacht charter, May, June, and September represent the sweet spot of the season. Temperatures are comfortably warm, ranging from the mid-20s to high 20s, the sea is ideal for swimming, and popular anchorages are generally less crowded than during the peak summer months. The reliable Embat breeze also provides excellent afternoon sailing conditions around the island's southern coast.

July and August bring the hottest weather and warmest sea temperatures of the year, making them particularly appealing for watersports and beach-focused itineraries. However, they are also the busiest months, especially around Palma, Port d'Andratx, Port de Sóller, and the island's most popular calas.

Visitors looking for a quieter experience may prefer spring or early autumn, when conditions remain favorable both on the water and ashore. Even October can offer warm sea temperatures and pleasant cruising conditions, while showcasing a more relaxed side of Mallorca after the summer crowds have departed.

Mallorca Winds & Sailing Conditions

Mallorca's sailing conditions are shaped as much by its geography as by the wider Mediterranean climate. The Serra de Tramuntana mountains create distinct wind zones around the island, meaning conditions can vary considerably between the north, south, east, and west coasts on the same day.

During the summer months, the most reliable local wind is the Embat, a thermal sea breeze generated as the island heats up during the day. Most noticeable in the Bay of Palma and along the southern coastline, the Embat typically builds through late morning and into the afternoon, creating ideal sailing conditions and providing welcome relief from the summer heat.

The island also experiences the Tramuntana, a colder northerly wind that develops when air flows south from mainland Europe. Most common during winter and early spring, it can accelerate through mountain passes and create strong gusts along Mallorca's northern coastline. Fortunately, the Serra de Tramuntana often acts as a natural barrier, protecting Palma and much of the south from the full force of these winds.

Elsewhere, the Levante brings easterly winds that can occasionally introduce heavier rainfall to the eastern coast and the Bay of Alcúdia, while the Migjorn, arriving from the south, often carries warmer air into Palma Bay. Along sections of the sheltered western coastline, particularly around Port d'Andratx, periods of Calma can develop, producing glassy seas and remarkably tranquil cruising conditions that are highly prized by Mediterranean yacht charter guests.
