Where to scuba dive on your luxury yacht charter vacation in Turkey

By Oliver Pearson   Last Updated: 23 May 2023

Offering spectacular views from above, the cruising grounds of Turkey become truly magical when explored from down below.

As one of the most historic destinations in the Mediterranean, Turkey treats its visitors to a variety of experiences which reflect the country’s rich past.

No doubt the most fun way to trace the history of the republic, however, is to don some diving gear and begin exploring the remnants found on the ocean floor. From abandoned shipwrecks to blossoming coral structures, and with plenty of colourful marine life in-between, there are sure to be views that amaze every member of your charter party.

In this feature we take a look at the best sites to scuba dive whilst enjoying a private yacht charter vacation in Turkey.

Bodrum

One of the largest towns to discover around the Aegean sea, Bodrum has earned a commanding reputation for its assortment of ancient ruins and quintessentially Turkish charm.

Ideal for visiting by superyacht, the positioning of the town allows charter guests to conveniently disembark and stroll along backstreets lined with floral cafes before ascending to the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Whilst the mainland is a treat for the discerning traveller, the greatest mysteries are certainly contained beneath the waters which fringe the coast. With rocks, reefs, and ancient vessels making up the layout, it’s not hard to see why it attracts a range of keen divers each year.

No doubt the greatest attraction of these waters, however, is a downed aircraft that is close enough to the surface for even less experienced divers to get up close to.

Fethiye

One of the most famous port cities in Turkey, the waters which stretch out from Fethiye abound with ancient formations for scuba divers to inspect.

Densely populated with vibrant marine life, charter guests are able to swim along the Afkule Wall and see for themselves the natural beauty of this site.

With accessible caverns, lagoons, and outstanding underwater visibility, Fethiye is perfect for divers of all abilities

What makes Fethiye particularly good for divers is the lack of any current which would otherwise disrupt the experience of being underwater.

Once everyone is dried off, there’s no better way to celebrate a successful diving trip than by heading over to the picturesque waterside town for a traditional Turkish meal. Kas

No doubt the most popular Turkish dive site, Kas boasts a range of wrecks, reefs, and even some caves for the more daring members of a party. Perhaps the central attraction is a replica of a massive wreck of a 14th Century BC ship. The original was raised some years ago and is now preserved in the Bodrum Museum a short distance away.

Offering opportunities for amateur and experienced divers alike, the marine life towards the surface is perfect for newcomers to diving, whilst the artifacts located 65m beneath the waterline are more suited for the technically capable.

Ultimately, Kas is the perfect spot to hit up with a charter yacht if those on board are of varying abilities.
