Tahiti Climate & Weather Averages

Weather Information for Tahiti

Tahiti enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures and inviting sea conditions throughout the year, making it an appealing destination for South Pacific yacht charters every season. The island experiences two distinct weather patterns: a warmer, more humid season from November through April, and a cooler, drier period between June and September.

Temperatures remain remarkably consistent, typically ranging from around 24°C at night to 30°C during the day, while sea temperatures stay comfortably warm year-round. The southeast trade winds, known locally as the mara’amu, become more noticeable during the drier months, bringing refreshing breezes that create pleasant cruising conditions around Tahiti and the neighboring Society Islands.

Rainfall is highest between December and March, when brief tropical showers are more common. However, these bursts of rain are often followed by sunshine, and the island's volcanic peaks and tropical valleys become particularly lush during this time. From June onward, rainfall decreases, humidity levels become more comfortable, and clearer skies prevail, creating some of the most favorable conditions of the year for exploring French Polynesia by yacht.

For example, the sea temperature will largely affect how much time you intend on spending in the water trying out your superyacht toys so watersports will want to make sure they travel during the warmest periods. In contrast, some areas may become particularly hot during summer and charterers would be advised to book later to ensure more comfortable conditions.

Although the most popular times to embark on a private superyacht vacation are usually during the peak summer months, there are many different elements to take into consideration before you go. Here we have used our detailed climate data to provide a monthly overview of when might be the best times to visit each destination.

Sunshine, Rainfall & Seasonal Conditions

The most popular time for a Tahiti yacht charter is between July and September, when the climate is at its driest, and the cooling trade winds provide ideal conditions for cruising between the islands. During these months, visitors can expect warm temperatures, lower humidity, and excellent visibility for snorkeling, diving, and exploring the region's renowned coral reefs and lagoons.

The shoulder months of June and October can be equally rewarding, offering similar weather conditions with slightly fewer visitors. Calm seas, reliable sunshine, and warm water temperatures make this an excellent time to enjoy a more relaxed yacht charter while still benefiting from some of the year's most settled weather.

While the wetter season from November to April brings a greater chance of tropical showers, it also reveals a quieter side to the islands. Anchorages are often less busy, the landscapes are at their greenest, and the warm sea temperatures remain ideal for spending time on the water. For those seeking a more tranquil experience, this period offers a different perspective on Tahiti while retaining the tropical beauty that makes French Polynesia such a sought-after yacht charter destination.
