Guide to Ravello

A refined elegance famed for inspiring artists, musicians and writers

As pretty Italian coastal spots go, Ravello has something extra special about it. It oozes glamour and style, is home to protected natural beauty and has long inspired the world’s artists, writers and jet set travellers with its old soul.

Unlike many Amalfi Coast towns, Ravello is perched high up on a hill with forests cascading below and its pastel hued buildings towering over you as you approach a yacht charter vacation in the Mediterranean. This privileged elevated location means that the town offers some of the best views on this stretch of famous coastline - views which famously cured German composer Richard Wagner’s writer’s block. To celebrate this, an annual music festival known to locals as the ‘Wagner Festival’ has been held every summer since 1953 and sees concerts of all kinds held over two months starting from April.

Watching peacefully over the Bay of Salerno, Ravello’s wild landscapes and historical importance earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1996. It is well-known for its beautiful and varied architecture ranging from Romano-Byzantine to Norman-Saracen which alludes to the town’s rich history. It's well-worth making some time to take in the architecture with a stroll through the winding narrow streets and whitewashed staircases, enjoying the manicured gardens - Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone in particular - and flora covered villas along the way.

Where its neighbours of Amalfi and Positano are known for a more rustic charm, Ravello envelops a feeling of serenity and effortless elegance to create the perfect yacht charter itinerary. This is exemplified in the main piazza - Piazza Duomo - set in from of the town’s Cathedral. Here, cafes and restaurants line the square that offer everything from traditional Italian plates to fine dining. Overall, the town offers a good selection of restaurants both in the piazza and on the seafront but for something more refined try Rossellinis at Palazzo Avino which is headed-up by the two-Michelin-starred chef Pino Lavarra.

If you are considering visiting Ravello as part of a private yacht vacation this summer, you can compare all Amalfi Coast crewed charter yachts to take the first step towards planning your luxury superyacht vacation in this region of Campania.
