Guide to Procida

The most colourful and tranquil island on the Amalfi Coast

Procida is an outstanding jewel found on the south-west coast of Italy. Situated in close proximity to Capri and Ischia, the elegant lesser-known isle is the smallest amongst the three that are situated in the Bay of Naples. Many elite visitors visit here for the impeccable sunsets and dreamy coastline, a combination that shouldn’t be missed on a luxury superyacht vacation.

Awarded with Italy’s Capital of Culture award in 2022, Procida is often recognised for her natural beauty and cultural heritage. Made up of beautiful pastel-coloured houses, idyllic secluded beaches and an array of scenic viewpoints, there is immediately a laid-back and relaxed ambience felt across this island. As you approach Marina Grande, the main arrival port of Procida, you will be greeted by a tangle of houses painted in pastel pinks, yellow and blues. The 17th century harbor also offers the most spectacular sunsets, often lighting up the sky in a blaze of orange and pinks providing the perfect backdrop for aperitifs aboard your superyacht charter.

Wandering inland, you will find that the streets are enlivened with pink bougainvillea and lemon groves squeezed into every available space. The distinctive narrow streets are perfect for a sunny afternoon stroll followed by a refreshment at one of the island's beautiful waterside cafes where you can watch the fishing boats bobbing in the crystalline Mediterranean waters.

If you’re looking to immerse yourself into some ancient history then this island will not disappoint. Oozing with culture is the oldest village and highest point on the island, Terra Murata. If you’re feeling adventurous, it is well worth heading up here for the panoramic views and to enjoy walking around the mediaeval streets. The main sight found in Terra Murata is the crumbling church of Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo, built in the 11th century the church is home to delightful works of art and a fantastic terrace to enjoy the romantic vista across the glistening bay below.

For lovers of the sea, there is an array of beautiful anchorages that boast beautifully calm waters and unique black sandy beaches. Chiaiolella is one of the island’s most popular locations due to its ability to catch the afternoon sun and provide the perfect social areas for drinking at the gorgeously decorated beach bars. If you’re looking for something a bit quieter then sail further east to Ciraccio beach or Pozzo Vecchio, a small bay famous for its feature in the Il Postino film.
