VIDEO: 142m Lurssen Superyacht NORD (Project Opus) Undergoes First Sea Trials

By Editorial Team   11 September 2020

The 142m / 466ft Lurssen superyacht NORD, still officially known as OPUS and Project Redwood, has been captured on camera undertaking her first sea trials ahead of her scheduled delivery before the end of 2020.

The hotly anticipated yacht is set to take her place in the top 15 of the World’s Top 100 Yachts on her delivery, and her distinctive Nuvolari Lenard design was spotted being put through her paces on the North Sea, navigating the channel from the Lurssen shipyard.

The sea trials gave us a closer look at NORD's striking profile, characterised by a blunt bow, curved black lines on the aft and prominent wing stations. The footage also showcased her multi-toned superstructure that adds to her imposing stature on the water.

The 9250GT yacht has a host of unique features, not least double helipads, one on the foredeck and one on the upper deck aft, which includes a built-in hangar space that slides into the superstructure when not in use.

Superyacht NORD also features a large sports and diving centre on the lower deck and an oversized swimming pool on the main deck. She is built to PYC standards and can accommodate up to 36 guests in 20 cabins that are spread across the yacht’s six decks.

Both the interior and exterior design is from Nuvolari Lenard who notably worked with Lurssen in the past on the award winning superyacht QUATTROELLE, which gathered many plaudits for her sleek styling and sugar-scoop windows.

NORD has remained shrouded in secrecy throughout the build process. She is still officially known as OPUS, with her nameplate yet to be unveiled, and was first announced as Project Redwood in 2015. YachtCharterFleet exclusively revealed last month that superyacht OPUS will soon be christened NORD.

NORD is set to be the third Lurssen yacht launched this year after the 140m (459') motor yacht SCHEHERAZADE and the 87m (285') motor yacht AVANTAGE. She will further add to the German shipyard’s presence when it comes to the largest yachts in the world, 29 of the world’s top 100 yachts come from Lurssen, including the world’s largest yacht - 180m (591') AZZAM.

It is not yet known whether M/Y NORD will become a luxury motor yacht for charter.
