Arriving to inaugurate the Monaco: Capital of Yachting Experience on Sunday, the 68m (224’) explorer yacht RAGNAR was honored with a water salute by the Monaco fire-brigade as she cruised into Port Hercules.

The iconic superyacht received the prestigious accolade when she arrived to kick off the Monaco: Capital of Yachting Experience, a weeklong focus on sustainability in yachting. It is a tradition reserved for the most exceptional yachts arriving in the Principality for the first time.

The event is part of Planetary Health Week, an initiative being held in Monaco and focusing on human health, climate change and environmental wellbeing. The Monaco: Capital of Yachting experience runs from 20 to 23 September and features four days of discussions focusing on how to tackle health and environmental challenges in the superyacht sector.

The programme will look at how the industry has been affected by COVID-19 and what is being done to adapt to the situation, the development of a Superyachts Emissions Index to encourage more sustainable yachting, the use of hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels and more.

RAGNAR was chosen specifically to open the event due to her exploration and research capabilities. Initially an icebreaking supply vessel called Sanaborg she underwent a two and a half year conversion, which started in 2017, to become a cutting-edge luxury expedition yacht.

With a range of 6,000 nautical miles the motor yacht can explore the most remote areas of the planet and is one of the few explorer yachts for charter with Arctic exploration capabilities and an ICE Class A1 hull.

She also features full ice breaking functionality and an OCS system that can beam back oceanographic and meteorological data at all times and in all weather conditions.

With accommodation for 12 guests, the motor yacht also features a number of other distinctive features including an ice pool, rainforest shower and snow room. Luxury isn’t on short supply either with a top deck jacuzzi and C deck pool, fully equipped gym, video games centre, a deluxe wellness centre, multiple lounging areas, a huge aft deck helipad and numerous toys and tenders to enjoy.
