Superyacht 'Game Changer' shows off major refit and 3m extension

By Editorial Team   14 October 2020

The 72m (236ft)  support superyacht ‘Game Changer’ took to the water again yesterday after an ambitious eight-month refit at the ICON shipyard in the Netherlands.

The 2017-built Damen Yachting vessel has emerged in a significantly different shape to the yacht that arrived in Gorinchem in March. Sporting a 3m (10ft) extension, full repaint and an extensive interior change, she now offers the ultimate exploration experience as a state-of-the-art, luxury expedition and diving vessel.

Inside the most notable change is a complete redesign of the originally sparse accommodation spaces. Game Changer now offers six high quality cabins that can accommodate up to 12 guests. Furnished in light pastel colors, contrasting with wooden detailing, each cabin has a contemporary feel and offers a much more luxurious experience.

Galley areas have also been completely overhauled and additional equipment added so the three chefs on board Game Changer, each with a Michelin star background, can make the most of their culinary expertise.

The repaint and 3m extension have prepared the voluminous yacht for ‘ambitious missions’ planned over the next few months. Her impressive set of facilities have already seen her explore some of the far flung corners of the globe, including Antarctica, Indonesia and Australia, prior to the refit work.

The repaint and 3m extension have prepared the voluminous yacht for ‘ambitious missions’ planned over the next few months.

Originally designed as a support vessel, Game Changer is now a fully functioning explorer vessel in her own right and is packed to the brim with tenders, toys and specialist equipment that can be put to use in all climates and conditions no matter where you are in the world.

Formerly a superyacht for charter, she is a fully registered PADI Five Star dive resort, and her top-of-the-range dive centre means guests can explore oceans around the globe to experience the most amazing marine life the planet has to offer.

Game Changer is also Polar Code C compliant and this, combined with her unique sleek axe bow design, means the otherwise inaccessible Polar regions are within easy reach of this 1,300 GT superyacht.

With over 250 square meters of open deck space, the motor yacht has plenty of room for a large fully certified helideck for the custom Airbus H130 T2 helicopter that is stored safely in a below-deck heli hangar.

At the opposite end of the spectrum a custom-built C-Researcher submarine can take three guests down to depths of up to 1,100 meters to see some of the world’s most unique and truly unseen environments.

Below deck there is a further 110 square meters of storage, accommodation and offices.

With a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 16 knots, and a top speed of 20 knots, Game Changer picked up the Best Support Vessel at the World Superyacht Awards in 2018 and certainly lives up to her name.
