Below Deck season 6 filmed in Tahiti

By Editorial Team   5 September 2018

The upcoming season of Below Deck filmed aboard the 56m/185ft charter yacht ‘My Seanna’ sees the hit reality TV series move from the Caribbean to the more far-flung cruising grounds of Tahiti.

All five previous seasons of Bravo’s Below Deck have followed the lives of the crew working aboard a superyacht in the popular charter destination of the Caribbean.

Yet, breaking traditions, the sixth season sees fan favourite Captain Lee Rosbach take the helm of My Seanna in Tahiti, an exotic island located at the heart of French Polynesia in the South Pacific.

As the show will reveal when it airs on 2 October, Tahiti and the other 117 islands of the archipelago offer incredible cruising opportunities for discerning travellers undertaking private yacht charters.

The region is suitable to visit by superyacht in late winter. As this is when the Caribbean is at its busiest, Tahiti makes a great alternative to the more conventional winter cruising grounds that have featured in previous seasons of Below Deck. These include St Martin, the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.

Located away from the superyacht hotspots of the Caribbean, the destination is perfect for those looking to venture off the beaten track for a more unusual charter experience. To find out more on where and when to go on your charter vacation, read our guide to yacht charter seasons.

Much of the turtle-shaped island’s allure is down to its incredible natural attractions. Expect black-sand beaches lined with coconut trees, secluded azure lagoons, soaring, cloud-swathed mountains, thundering waterfalls and valleys dotted with ancient temple ruins.

Hundreds of hidden anchorages and bays await those on a French Polynesia yacht charter, with no-end of snorkelling stop-off points to discover the incredibly rich and colourful marine life. The waters are also frequented by whales and dolphins and, at the right time of year, sightings are possible.

The island also exudes an incredibly seductive laid-back charm, perfect for banishing all the stresses of life back home. And, there is a selection of upscale resorts available for those who want to step ashore for some five-star dining or spa treatments.

Forming part of the Society Islands, Tahiti is also within easy reach of other beautiful islands such as Moorea and Bora Bora. Plus, other remote island groups that make up French Polynesia, including the Tuamotu Atolls, the mysterious Marquesas Islands and the Austral Islands, can be discovered too.

Be sure to tune into Below Deck season six when it premieres next month to get a feel of what it’s like to explore the region by luxury yacht. Or discover more about the yachts appearing on the show in the article Below deck yacht names and how much they cost to rent.
