Venice, Italy

For 10 days this September, the Lido of Venice will transform into the capital of cinema as film stars and superyachts roll into town for the Venice Film Festival.

Getting underway on 2nd September, the Venice Film Festival will return in 2018 for its 75th edition, with a line-up of movie screenings, red carpet action and exclusive parties.

Held every year in Venice’s historic Palazzo del Cinema, the event is the oldest festival of its kind in the world, and aims to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue.

A highlight of the festival is the moment when the winner of the iconic Golden Lion prize is revealed. Last year, Guillermo del Toro’s romantic fantasy The Shape of Water scooped the top film prize and all eyes will be on the 2018 recipient.

The event also organises retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.

Over the years, superyachts lined up in the marina opposite St Mark’s Square have become a regular sight at the festival and it’s possible to arrange a luxury yacht charter to coincide with the event. For more details, speak to your preferred charter broker.
