Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2021

Porto Cervo, Sardinia

June

By Katia Damborsky

Blending world-class sailing with the enticing setting of Porto Cervo, the Superyacht Regatta’s winning combination makes it a benchmark of the Mediterranean regatta circuit.

Formerly called the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, the Superyacht Regatta will be back in June for another five days of exhilarating action off the Costa Smeralda region of Sardinia.

With around 20 sailing yachts in the running, the races will see seasoned sailors putting their precision and accuracy to the test as they battle it out to be crowned the victor in one of three unique categories.

While the Superyacht Regatta 2021 will host plenty of famous sailors, the event is also a prime candidate for those looking to experience the camaraderie and teamship of a regatta charter.

The races

More than 50 courses are at the disposal of the regatta organisers, with La Maddalena archipelago carving out a number of challenging routes.

The routes are chosen according to weather conditions, which are generally favourable in the Tyrrhenian region of Italy during the month of June.

However, the five-day racing format will account for any races which have been postponed or rescheduled due to lack of wind.

The racing divisions are as followed; Performance, Cruiser, and Southern Winds. The latter is specifically geared towards Southern-Winds built sailing yachts.

The setting

Hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), the event boasts a sparkling programme of shoreside events, including yacht hops, formal functions and awards ceremonies in and around the luxurious clubhouse.

Those on a Porto Cervo yacht charter can soak up the action from the sidelines, or step on shore and get involved in the post-race excitement.

As ever, the Superyacht Regatta will highlight the unparalleled beauty of this area of Sardinia, and spectators and participants alike can benefit from the miles of sandy beach and crystalline ocean.

While chartering a yacht in this area of Italy, guests can expect to encounter countless quiet anchorages and secluded dive spots, as well as upscale restaurants and designer fashion houses in central Porto Cervo.
