Porto Cervo, Sardinia
Getting the Mediterranean regatta season underway in style, this four-day racing fixture brings together a world-class fleet of sailing yachts in the idyllic surrounds of Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.
Taking place every year in early June, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta is organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS). Racing takes place over four days, with the YCCS clubhouse in Porto Cervo serving as the base and the islands of the nearby La Maddalena archipelago marking out the courses.
This region of Sardinia offers both stunning scenery and ideal sailing conditions: abundant wind, sunshine and more than 50 race courses to suit any eventuality.
A fleet of 10-plus sailing yachts usually signs up to compete. Contenders can range from performance-orientated carbon builds to the more traditional aluminum-hulled superyachts.
Away from the thrilling racing, there is a programme of elegant on-shore social events. Expect welcome parties, after-race drinks and owners’ dinners. There is also the prize-giving ceremony to attend on the final evening of the competition.
The event serves as a perfect opportunity to undertake a regatta charter and race against other like-minded enthusiasts. The sense of community and exuberant atmosphere combined with the thrill of the wind under sail is an experience that is second to none.
...spectacular yachts, a stunning setting, top-class racing and great social events
