Bay of Islands, New Zealand

30 Jan - 2 Feb 2019

By Rebecca Bradbury

The South Pacific’s premier regatta will be back for three days of thrilling racing from 30 January 2019.

Combining high-quality racing, exceptional hospitality and the picturesque scenery of New Zealand’s Bay of Islands, the NZ Millennium Cup will kick off the South Pacific's 2019 regatta season in spectacular style.

The format for 2019 will change to allow a larger fleet to race on a new, more challenging course. This is in response to an anticipated surge of interest over the next couple of years due to the upcoming edition of the America's Cup, which will take place in New Zealand in March 2021.

With three days of racing and a variety of social functions, the regatta will be action-packed. The hard-fought circuits always make the most of the stunning setting and owners often return to compete each year.

At the last edition, however, it was newcomer AMMONITE that sailed to victory with two-time winner TAWERA hot on her heels. TAWERA will be returning for the 2019 edition to see if she can take back her title.

Regatta organisers, the NZ Marine Export Group, strive to ensure the three-day racing event highlights the diversity of New Zealand’s cruising grounds as well as the world-leading refit and repair services available throughout the country.

The regatta certainly offers an ideal opportunity to visit the country and explore its beautiful waters. For more information, talk to your preferred charter broker.
