Start of July
Each year, the British Grand Prix promises to be an unforgettable event.
The British Grand Prix, along with the Italian Grand Prix, is the oldest continuously staged Formula One World Championship Grand Prix. It was the first Formula One Grand Prix to ever be held in 1950 and was attended by King George IV.
Over the years, the British Grand Prix has been held at numerous alternating venues, but Silverstone has always been one of them. Between 1955 and 1962 the race alternated between Silverstone and Aintree, with the even numbered years at Silverstone and the odd numbered years at Aintree. Between 1963 and 1986, the races alternated between Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Since 1987, every British Grand Prix has been held at the Silverstone circuit.
Covering 52 laps, Silverstone has a total distance of 306.198km. Fernando Alonso holds the current lap record here from 2010, completing a 5.891km lap in just 1:30.874.
12 Britons have won the British Grand Prix to date, incuding Stirling Moss, who was the first Briton to win here and Jim Clark, who won here five times. Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton have also had wins at this track.
The British Grand Prix remains, to this day, one of the world's premiere motor racing events and is a must-see for any motor racing fans. Talk to your yacht charter broker today to organise a stop off in England in July on your yacht charter vacation to witness this spectacular race for yourself.
