Top attractions in Abu Dhabi

By Emma Louise Ford   22 August 2018

With year-round warm weather, fantastic beaches and a whole host of new museums, parks and events, the coastal capital of the United Arab Emirates has plenty to offer. We’ve collated a list of the best things to do there…

Take a helicopter ride

An aerial view of Abu Dhabi by helicopter is simply breathtaking. Take a day trip to Al Jahili Fort, one of the largest forts in the United Arab Emirates, built in the late 19th century by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa the First.

Visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Built in honor of the UAE’s founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a true reflection of Arabian splendor. With the capacity for an astonishing 40,000 worshippers, it is the largest mosque in the UAE and one of the largest in the world. 82 domes and more than 1,000 columns adorn the structure, and reflective pools amplify its beauty.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

The first Louvre outside of France, the museum has an all-encompassing art collection. Works include a paper collage by Picasso never seen in the public domain. The museum itself is a work of art, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, its layout resembles an Arab Medina, casts wonderful dappled light from its patterned dome.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

The first Ferrari branded theme park in the world, there are 37 rides and attractions to choose from including Formula Rossa, one of the fastest roller coasters in the world reaching 150mph/240km/h.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club

A Gary Player designed course with views of the Gulf glittering in the distance as you play and enjoy the natural beauty on Saadiyat island.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi

The world’s first ever Warner Bros. branded indoor theme park. Based on Yas Island, entirely indoors and fully air conditioned, there are 29 exhilarating rides and roller coasters and six lands to explore. Meet and greet the faces from your childhood including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry and The Flintstones.

Spa break

Take time out for you with a relaxing massage in one of the most decadent settings in Abu Dhabi. Emirates Palace Spa is a celebrity favourite for good reason with its lush marble surroundings and gold facials. Alternatively the ESPA at Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi has some ideal features for relaxing after a busy race weekend incluing seperate male and female areas and soothing Metronap Energy Pods.

Go to the beach

Some of the finest beaches are very close to Yas Marina. Corniche or Saadiyat are the prettiest public beaches, or for something more private there's Zaya Nurai island, an exclusive resort which takes up an entire island (you can arrange a day pass if you contact the hotel).

Visit an Arabian wildlife park - Sir Bani Yas Island

The park, which takes up half the island situated just southwest of Abu Dhabi, contains more than 10000 free roaming animals and is home to giraffe, gazelles and cheetahs. Book a wildlife drive in a 4x4 accompanied by a guide who can tell you all about the island's inhabitants.
