Whether popping the question, enjoying a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary or simply rekindling the flames of passion, cruise to one of these heart-shaped islands on your loved-up yacht charter for the ultimate romantic getaway.
Galesnjak Island, Croatia
Tiny, heart-shaped Galesnjak lies off Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast not far from the mainland town of Zadar. Uninhabited, the island’s untamed interior of wild shrubs is fringed by deserted pebble beaches and the azure waters of the Adriatic.
Its unusual shape was first discovered in the early 19th century by cartographer Charles-François Beautemps-Beaupré but, after being captured on Google Earth in 2009, couples cruising the region have been unable to resist its romantic allure.
Heart Reef, Australia
A spectacular, heart-shaped coral formation, Heart Reef has been one of the most renowned sights of the Whitsundays ever since 1975 when it was snapped by a pilot scouting out opportunities for promotional material.
A scenic flight over the reef, either by seaplane or helicopter, is the best way to see the site due to its protected status. But the views from above are incredible and many a marriage proposal has taken place from such a vantage point.
If you’re planning to make the ultimate romantic gesture, it's easily incorporated into a charter vacation to Australia. Yachts available to rent in the region include the 37m/121ft sailing yacht BLISS and the 25m/83ft motor yacht ALANI.
Tavarua Island, Fiji
The heart-shaped island resort of Tavarua lays close to Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. From playing tennis and strolling through the jungle to lazing on the beautiful beaches and snorkelling in the coral-rich waters, there's plenty to do.
Indeed, love birds looking for idyllic island bliss will certainly find their paradise here but, as there are also world-class surf breaks such as the iconic Cloudbreak nearby, it's also a hotspot for couples with a passion for riding the waves.
Get planning your intimate escape to the South Pacific aboard one of these luxury charter yachts: the 49m/161ft superyacht ‘Endless Summer’, the 45m/148ft superyacht ‘Big Fish’ and the 34m/111ft sailing yacht SILVERTIP.
Tūpai Island, French Polynesia
Known as ‘the most romantic spot in French Polynesia’, the uninhabited, low-lying atoll of Tūpai lies 10 miles north of Bora Bora. Pristine coral encloses a shallow lagoon fringed with whiter-than-white sand and swaying coconut palms.
Lovers can play out their Robinson Crusoe fantasies here, alongside the humpback whales who arrive in the surrounding calm waters to give birth between July and October. While, come November, sea turtles arrive to lay their eggs on the beach.
The island itself is rocky and barren but, lapped by turquoise waters and tallying a population of just seven, sweethearts on a superyacht vacation can drop anchor here and spend a day revelling in its sheer seclusion.
