Not only is Thanda a haven of luxury for upscale travellers, but it is also a breeding ground for a resident flock of grey and black egrets that inhabit the island.
Wildlife enthusiasts will love exploring the bush that backs onto the villa to see these incredible creatures. Tall, long-legged and with S-curved necks and sharp bills, they are similar in appearance to herons and live and hunt in freshwater and saltwater marshes.
Thanda Island makes an excellent home for them as fish is in ample supply and the egrets manage to hatch a significant number of their delicate baby blue eggs.
At different times of the year, visitors can make their way around the white sand trail and observe the birds interacting with each other and their young.
