Sardinia’s Costa Smerelda is one of those superyacht destinations that has continued to charm and delights its visitors over many years by evolving to meet the needs of a discerning crowd without compromising its natural beauty. It was one such charmed visitor, Aga Khan, that gave this 55km stretch its millionaire’s-haven reputation when he fell in love with it in the 1960s. He created an environment with enough luxury hotels, harbours and amenities to appeal to wealthy travellers without taking away from the rugged landscapes that make it so special.

In the same decade, two young Venetians, the brothers Donà della Rosa, put Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo on the map with a new breed of resorts. Since then, they have become popular luxury destinations and have developed a strong reputation amongst the yachting crowd. So much so, that every two years the waters between the town’s host the Veteran Big Boat Rally, a regatta of classic sailing yachts.

Situated on Sardinia's northeastern coast, Porto Rotondo is perfect for a quieter, more relaxing escape. Its pretty port is well-equipped to host a number of vessels and welcomes you in to take your place amongst the luxury yachts against the backdrop of coastline and cliffs. Its location and crescent-shaped bay means that there are plenty of beautiful white sand beaches to choose from with the most popular being Cala di Volpe and Nuragh. But with your own charter yacht you’ll be able to avoid the crowds and reach the most private coves.

If you’re thinking about embarking on a yachting vacation in Italy, then the Emerald Coast has a wealth of destinations to choose from and Porto Rotondo is one of the most popular stop-offs. Take a look at all the luxury yachts available for private Sardinia yacht charters to get inspired.
