Nafplion, Greece

11th December 2013

The picturesque seaport town of Nafplion (Nafplio) is considered one of the most beautiful mainland towns in Greece, sprawling charming buildings that expands over the rolling hillsides that line the north end of the Argolic Gulf.

The town is rich in history and culture and was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. It was until recently a relatively well-kept secret in the East Mediterranean and has since become an increasingly popular stop off for luxury yacht charters and weekending Athenians. Renowned for its elegant Venetian architecture and neo-classical museums, its lively, winding streets are full of quayside cafes, award-winning museums, magnificent fortresses and designer boutiques.

Most of the old town is on a peninsula jutting into the gulf; this peninsula forms a naturally protected bay that is enhanced by the addition of man-made moles. The town will also be home to the inaugural Mediterranean Yacht Show which has been organised by new yachting association GYA, (Greek Yachting Association) and will take place between the 3rd and 7th May 2014.
