Gulf of Porto, Corsica

10th February 2014

Corsica’s dramatically beautiful west coast is home to the Gulf of Porto, a jagged and unspoilt peninsula that encompasses a multitude of hidden coves, rocky bays and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A luxury yacht charter vacation along this rugged island’s coastline offers some of the most spectacular backdrops in the Mediterranean. Known as the ‘Mountain in the Sea’, the French island of Corsica’s diverse landscapes include towering red cliffs that plunge into the turquoise waters and fine sand beaches leading endlessly to sea grottos, coves and islets, some of which are only accessible by yacht.

The UNESCO Scandola Nature Reserve is one of three main areas in the Gulf of Porto, the others being the Calanche of Piana and the Gulf of Girolata. On land, the Calanche coastline of rocky inlets is famous for its contrasts: Mediterranean maquis, chestnut forests, and coloured cliffs that drop into the clear, calm waters providing perfect swimming, snorkelling, diving and sailing conditions.
