The storm, named 'Erika,' hit at the end of August, killing 20 people and causing widespread destruction across the tiny 289 square mile Caribbean island, located in the Windward Islands. With the airport having suffered severe damage, aid is severely restricted.
Hubert Winston the president of the Dominica Marine Association is calling all Caribbean-based superyachts to help supply vital relief necessities either directly or through monetary donations. Donations should be registered to the Dominica Tropical Storm Erika Relief Fund.
The president is asking all superyachts interested in directly helping those in need to bring “diapers, baby bottles, bottled water, dry food, batteries, personal hygiene goods…and more" to people in need. He added, "We would be grateful if you can find it in your heart to assist us in this great time of need.”
The Dominica Marine Association is extremely grateful to any form of donation and has made clear that all proceedings “will go to the Dominica Red Cross,…water taxi efforts” and overseeing the complete management of the disaster effort.
For those who wish to offer the service of their luxury yacht, please notify the Dominica Association before entering to permit customs to be cleared.
