NMMA Panel Identifies Cuba As Emerging Superyacht Destination

By Oliver Pearson   18 April 2016

During last month’s annual USSA Superyacht Summit, members of The National Marine Manufacturers Association took part in a panel discussion which concluded that Cuba has a renewed and promising potential for yacht charter vacations.

Meeting in Florida each year to address the challenges faced by the US superyacht industry, the USSA devoted a portion of their 2016 summit to discussing the possibilities on offer around Cuba.

Following the recent resurgence in political relations we covered in an earlier post, it would appear that the island nation could well become a leading charter destination should certain laws become more relaxed.

Concurring with other industry commentators, the NMMA reported that their recent fact finding trips yielded positive results, and the body will now look at strategies which they hope will attract the elite traveller in the near future.

Resplendent with turquoise waters fringed by miles of unspoiled beaches, it’s no surprise that Cuba makes for an ideal destination to charter a superyacht

Joining the captains of industry in their support for the charms of the island nation, a number of outstanding yachts are expected to be cruising in Cuba later on this year.

Indeed, this summer, the 34m/112ft motor yacht JOPAJU is available in Cuba as well as the 49m/159ft charter yacht AUDACIA from Feadship.

For those keen to get away ahead of summer, the 52m/172ft luxury yacht ‘Big Eagle’ is also expected to be open for her first ever Cuban luxury charters this spring.

Whilst there’s plenty of activity going on in the area, it’s not just motor yachts getting in on the action- the outstanding 24m/77ft sailing yacht ‘Ocean Phoenix’ is open for vacations and regattas too.

Ultimately, it would appear that whatever your charter needs, there’s a vessel sure to satisfy in Cuba this year.
