Gouvia Marina Completes Major Redevelopment Ahead of Greece Yacht Charter Season

By Anna Ingles   5 June 2026

One of the Mediterranean's most strategically positioned yachting hubs for Greece yacht charters has unveiled a significant transformation, with D-Marin completing an €8.5 million redevelopment of Gouvia Marina in Corfu.

Located on the island's east coast and serving as a key gateway between the Ionian Sea, Adriatic, and wider Mediterranean yacht charter cruising grounds, the upgraded marina now offers expanded berthing capacity, enhanced guest facilities, and a range of sustainability-focused improvements designed to elevate the yachting experience.

The investment further strengthens Corfu's appeal as a starting point for Ionian Islands yacht charters, providing improved infrastructure for both visiting superyachts and charter guests exploring the East Med.

Expanded Capacity for Visiting Charter Yachts

As part of the redevelopment, Gouvia Marina has added 104 new berths capable of accommodating Corfu charter yachts up to 50 meters in length, alongside expanded shore-side storage facilities and upgraded visitor amenities.

The increased capacity is expected to support growing demand for yacht charters throughout the Ionian region, particularly during the peak summer season when Corfu serves as a popular embarkation point for Greek charter itineraries exploring destinations such as Paxos, Antipaxos, Lefkada, Kefalonia, and Zakynthos.

Already recognised as the largest marina in Corfu, the enhanced facilities further establish Gouvia Marina as one of the most important cruising hubs in Greece.

Smart Technology and Sustainability Enhancements

Alongside the physical expansion, the marina has introduced a series of digital and environmental upgrades designed to improve day-to-day operations for yacht owners, captains, crew, and guests.

New Smart Pedestals have been installed across every berth, allowing electricity and water consumption to be monitored remotely via D-Marin's dedicated mobile application. The marina has also benefited from a comprehensive digital infrastructure upgrade, including improved Wi-Fi coverage throughout the facility.

Sustainability has played a central role in the redevelopment, with improvements including high-efficiency water filtration systems, low-energy LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, upgraded fire safety systems, and enhanced accessibility throughout the marina.

A notable milestone is the installation of Gouvia Marina's first on-site solar power system and D-Marin's first renewable energy project in Greece. The new photovoltaic system is expected to generate approximately 167 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually, supplying around 20 percent of the marina's electricity requirements.

Popular Inspiration Guides For Greece Yacht Charters

Why Corfu Remains a Favourite for Greece Yacht Charters

Often considered one of the most accessible and diverse cruising destinations in Greece, Corfu continues to attract luxury yacht charter guests seeking a combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and relaxed island-hopping itineraries.

Its location within the Ionian Islands offers generally calmer cruising conditions than many areas of the Aegean, making it particularly appealing for families and first-time charter guests.

The island itself combines Venetian architecture, UNESCO-recognised heritage sites, secluded beaches, and vibrant waterfront towns, while nearby islands provide an abundance of picturesque anchorages and crystal-clear swimming spots.

Popular charter routes from Corfu can include visits to Paxos and Antipaxos, renowned for their turquoise waters and sea caves, alongside longer voyages south toward Lefkada, Ithaca, and Kefalonia.

The marina's enhanced facilities are therefore expected to further strengthen Corfu's position as one of the Mediterranean's leading embarkation destinations for luxury yacht charters.

Strengthening Greece's Yachting Infrastructure

The redevelopment forms part of wider efforts to modernise Greece's nautical tourism sector and enhance its competitiveness within the Mediterranean charter market.

By combining expanded berthing capacity, modern digital infrastructure, and sustainability-focused initiatives, Gouvia Marina is now better positioned to support the increasing number of superyacht charters choosing the Ionian Islands as a base for summer cruising.

For charter guests planning an upcoming yacht charter in Greece, the improvements offer an enhanced arrival experience and a stronger gateway to one of the Mediterranean's most rewarding cruising regions.
