The 71st Venice International Film Festival will run from 27th August to 6th September and will again be directed by Alberto Barbera.
The oldest and, after Cannes, the most prestigious of the International film festivals, Venice continues to be a favourite event to launch some of the most highly anticipated international productions of the year. Despite having its ups and downs over the years, the Festival is recognised today as showcasing a selection of the very best new international cinema, glamorous Hollywood premieres and a handful of vintage titles, most of which have been restored.
The chief purpose of the Venice Film Festival is to raise awareness of the film industry and to promote the various apsects of international cinema, including homage to some of the major figures in cinema.The Festival's main theatre, the Sala Grande, has been renovated over the past two years and the large Sala Darsena screening theatre is being renovated and enlarged from 1299 to 1409 seats.
