Superyacht Challenge Antigua 2019

English Harbour, Antigua

30 Jan - 3 Feb 2019

By Rebecca Bradbury

Kicking off the Caribbean regatta season in style, the Superyacht Challenge Antigua will be back on 30 January for another four days of nail-biting action.

Now in its ninth year, the Superyacht Challenge Antigua never fails to bring a magnificent fleet of sailing yachts to the beautiful south coast of Antigua. Four races will be held over four days, with warm trade winds and ocean swell expected to produce ideal conditions for the daily pursuit races.

Fair racing and good companionship are valued above all else at the event and competitors and race organisers will vote for the yacht that has competed in the ‘spirit of the regatta’. The yacht with the most votes will be awarded the Gosnell Trophy during a prize-giving ceremony on the final evening of the regatta.

Despite the focus on fairness and camaraderie, the racing is still highly competitive. In 2018, all the competitors in the Corsairs Class were previous winners with the victor undecided until the final race.

Topping the leaderboard and winning for the second year in a row was the 34m/112ft charter yacht SPIIP and the Royal Huisman build will be back at the 2019 edition to retain her title. To watch her in action, plan a luxury yacht charter to coincide with the regatta and catch all the racing from the comfort of your superyacht.
