Panerai Transat Classique 2019

Christophe Harbour, St Kitts

8 - 22 Jan 2019

By Rebecca Bradbury

The legendary Panerai Transat Classique race will return in January 2019 with a new 3,000-mile-long course.

On 8th January, a fleet of magnificent classic sailing yachts will set sail from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, aiming to be the first to cross the finish line at Christophe Harbour in St Kitts.

Crews departing from Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, will have to use their seafaring skills to negotiate the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwest Africa, before taking advantage of the trade winds and tackling the waters of the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles.

A dozen classic yachts, measuring from 11 to 48 metres, have already pre-registered, including former winner STIREN and two exceptional three-masted schooners. Twenty vessels are expected to compete in total.

The Panerai Transat Classique will be celebrating its fourth edition of the regatta in 2019, following fixtures in 2006, 2012 and 2015. Ever since its inception, the race has established itself as the benchmark of off-shore sailing navigation.

To take in the thrilling action, why not rent a luxury charter yacht in St Kitts and have the best seats in the house as competitors traverse the home straight. For more details, speak to your preferred charter broker
