The 13th edition of Thailand’s most long-running boat show, the Phuket International Boat Show, is set to be the grandest event yet, following new licenses permitting the chartering of superyachts in the country.
The mood is positive in Thailand about the growth of the charter industry following new laws passed in August 2015 allowing foreign-flagged luxury yachts of over 30 metres to offer charters. With more superyacht arrivals expected to Phuket’s shores in 2016, this year's PIMIX is set to be its busiest edition yet for both attending yachts and visitors.
Speaking on the show, organiser Andrew Dowden commented, “For 2016, we have increased available in-water space and expect to have more than 3 Billion Baht of products on display in-the-water and in the Exhibition Hall. On the back of the government’s superyacht initiative we expect to see a bigger presence of yachts over 30m and to grow the show 30% across the board.”
Over 13 years, the show has sought to boost Phuket’s status as the superyacht hub for those visiting South East Asia. The event has previously attracted over 5,000 visitors from more than 30 countries around the world.
The 2016 Phuket International Boat Show, will be attended by over fifty boats and yachts measuring up to 35 metres in length and around 150 exhibiting businesses, including 70 luxury lifestyle and marine brands - the biggest number in the show's history.
On the back of the government’s superyacht initiative we expect to see a bigger presence of yachts over 30m and to grow the show 30% across the board.
