Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta 2020

Postponed (Dates to be announced)

By Katia Damborsky

In this thrilling celebration of vintage yachts, sailors from across the globe will gather in Antigua for the 33rd annual Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta

Between 15 - 21 April Antigua will be a hive of excitement as a fleet of classic yachts prepare to battle it out to be crowned the winner of the famous regatta.

The four-days of racing include a number of circuits around the southern portion Antigua, with most of them setting course from English Harbour.

Announced on each day of racing, the courses have been designed to ensure the yachts give each other a wide berth on the water. This creates the perfect setting for fun and safe racing, and is necessary given the antique status of many of the participating yachts.

This year’s fleet will be split into six racing divisions; Traditional, Vintage, Classic, Classic GPR, Spirit of the Tradition and Tall Ships. With a growing turnout each year, the 2020 version is expected to amass in excess of 50 competitors.

Highlighting the friendly spirit of the races, founder Kenny Coombs has said; ‘Everyone here is on the same level, whether you come in flip flops or a private jet. We’re here for the sailing’

As ever, a welcome party at Antigua Yacht Club will inaugurate proceedings on the 15th, and a number of fun-filled onshore activities promise a highly enjoyable experience for participants and onlookers alike. As well as cream teas and an open mic night, there will also be a Concours d’Elegance.

With a winning combination of Caribbean hospitality, ideal sailing conditions and friendly camaraderie, the races this year are set to be a success.
