Any yacht club can challenge for the Cup, provided they meet the requirements laid out in the Deed of Gifts. If the challenger wins, they gain guardianship of the Cup and get the right to set the rules and protocol of the next regatta.
Many of the top sailors from around the world are enticed by the high regard and eminence associated with the America's Cup. It is an extreme challenge that tests the skills of the sailors as well as the design of the participating yachts.
