Currently held by Golden Gate YC (GGYC), the Luis Vuitton Cup Regatta will decide who will challenge for the Cup in 2013.
The America's Cup Match is preceded by yacht racing in 45 foot catamarans in different countries around the world.
The racing began in August 2011 with three regattas, and continued into 2012 but the defense of the Cup itself will take place this year. The Challenger and Defender Selection Series is scheduled for July and August with the actual America's Cup Match (the best of nine series) due to take place between 7th-22nd September in San Francisco.
Golden Gate Yacht Club are the defenders of the Cup this year, but the challenger is yet to be decided in the Luis Vuitton Cup.
