Where to find the best shops in St Barts

By Laura King   Last Updated: 24 March 2023

Awash with designer labels and exquisite boutiques, no St Barts yacht charter vacation is complete without spending a day strolling the two major shopping areas on the island; Gustavia and St-Jean.

Named by Forbes as one of the world’s top 10 shopping destinations, this duty-free port is the ultimate shopping haven.

While stopping off at this trendy enclave as part of your Caribbean yacht charter, expect to spend the morning rubbing shoulders with famous faces, and immersing yourself in the opulent wares which abound on the island of Saint Barthélemy.

If you're looking for all the best shops in St Barts, here's where you'll find:

Luxury Fashion

Begin your shopping in the island’s capital Gustavia, and revel in all the high-end designer retail you could possibly want across 3 main shopping streets, Quai de la République, Rue du Général de Gaulle and Rue de Roi Oscar 11.

The popular harbour-side street of Quai de la République features a strong line-up of designer stores such as Louis Vuitton, Dior and Hermès, some holding items you won’t find elsewhere in the world.

Once you’ve perused each one, continue your search for designer goods and explore the nearby Carré d’Or plaza and the Coeur Vendôme Center, for further designers like Roberto Cavalli, Ralph Lauren and Prada.

Jewellery and Wrist Wear

Cartier, Chopard and Bulgari are nestled along Quai de la République, for those wanting to lose themselves amongst the glistening jewels and wristwear of the world’s most renowned designers.

Watches in Rolex store in St Barts

Quality designer watches are found in the centre of Gustavia too, and are available from various stores such as Diamond Genesis, Richard Mille and Time.

For beautifully creative jewellery featuring unusual stones and designs, visit Fabienne Miot or Bijoux de la Mer, which can be found on Gustavia’s second main shopping street, Rue du Général de Gaulle.

Footwear

For an exquisite selection of footwear from the crème de la crème of shoe designers, Human Steps should be your first stop. Situated in the heart of Gustavia, it stocks coveted designer brands and attracts high-rolling celebrities on the hunt for their next pair of Jimmy Choos.

For those who can lust after deluxe footwear all day long, you can find a further selection at the designer stores along Quai de la République.

There are also many more locally-made boutique stores in the St Jean shopping area, which sell beautiful and unique footwear at a lesser price. Reaching Villa Creole in St Jean is easy by foot or car, and you’ll be sampling a new pair of sandals in no time at all.

Beachwear

St Jean has an array of diverse boutiques along the seafront, offering exclusive swimsuits and beachwear. These stores blend laidback island style with elegant runway chic, producing a style that appeals to even the most fashion-discerning, and one that has become an almost classic Leeward Islands look.

If local products appeal to you, try Corossol and Colombier’s range of baskets and broad brimmed hats, or the luxury swimsuits at Pain de Sucre. Made for life in the sunshine, the style of the produce there will fit suitably with the St Bart’s yacht charter lifestyle. For men’s swimwear, stick to the Gustavia area for a comprehensive choice.

Skincare

If your guilty pleasure is pampering yourself with plush cosmetic products, Gustavia’s Ligne St Barth Lorient has a well-respected line of opulent skincare products at attractive price points, and caters for both men and women.

The exotic scents and wide range of different lotions are made on the island with sun-kissed skin in mind, perfect for hydrating after a day out on the water.

You’ll also find some locally produced lotions and oils from lesser-known boutiques in the St Jean shopping area. Created from native island plants, these are truly unique and would make ideal gifts for loved ones; souvenirs of St Barts in themselves.

Cigars

If there’s one item that isn’t costly in St Barts, it’s cigars, and there are 2 stores on the island which will satisfy any cigar aficionado. La Casa del Habano can be found at Villa Créole in St Jean and is hailed as the best cigar shop on the island by many.

With a broad selection of perfect condition habanos, ranging from the more well known to the rare, the many boxes of cigars will engulf you as you enter the store, bringing a taste of Cuba in St Barts.

The second renowned store is Le Comptoir du Cigare, which can be found on Rue du Général-de-Gaulle in Gustavia and both stores are well worth a visit, even if you don’t partake.

Art

Perhaps you’ve been looking to fill a space on your wall, or perhaps you’ll make your first ever purchase. Whichever it is, the diversity of art available on the island is captivating.

Some of the larger hotels in Gustavia and St Jean have small gallery and craft boutiques which you’re welcome to peruse, but there are also numerous galleries full of unique art around Saint Barthélemy, just waiting to be discovered.

The tourist office in Gustavia can arrange visits to studios of island artists, if you’d like to meet the talent behind the artwork first hand, or let the art speak for itself as you cast your attention over the truly superb selections.

Souvenirs

Whether you're looking for gift for friends and family or a memento to remember your superyacht vacation by, St Barts has numerous stores which offer an authentic taste of island life.

Tucked behind an inconspicuous shopfront along Les Amandiers, Sea Spice offers a range of artisan goods, ranging from clothes and straw bags to delicious spices and hand-crafted rums.

The spices are a particularly popular purchase, with hundreds of different types blended on the island. There are also numerous types of jams, chutneys, teas, and traditionally-produced rum aged in oak barrels.

Stores close for a few hours in the middle of the day, so take this opportunity to have a lengthy and restorative oceanfront déjeuner, before plunging back into the many lavish stores and boutiques for the remainder of your afternoon.
