Abu Dhabi’s cultural beacon
The only other Louvre museum outside of France, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is an architectural wonder full of cultural gems and contemporary pieces of art.
Situated on Saadiyat Island, the art and civilisation museum was created in collaboration with France and designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. The museum itself is a work of art, its layout resembling an Arab Medina with a patterned dome that casts dappled light on its visitors.
Supplied with over 300 works from French museums and art galleries, loans have included works by Picasso and Leonardo Da Vinci. Unusually the Louvre is divided into 12 chapters of civilisation with art and artefacts from the same era for visitors to enjoy, creating an experience quite unlike other galleries and museums.
Visitors in the area for who are chartering a yacht for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be pleased to know the museum is located just twenty minutes' outside Yas Marina.
Those who have plumped for an F1 hospitality package may find their hotel puts them in closer proximity to the Louvre, and should dedicate some time to visiting this historical landmark to complete their Abu Dhabi Grand Prix experience.
Offering a soothing experience away from the fast-paced action on the track, yacht-goers can take a break to peruse the museum and soak up the unique culture and art installations.
