Visit the Baths of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands

8th September 2014

Formed over millions of years, the baths of Virgin Gorda are one of the most famous destinations in the Caribbean. The crystal clear waters of the Batholiths are framed by a series of interconnecting boulder formations which create unique grottos for your exploration. Offering the ultimate for a secluded, romantic getaway - sit back and enjoy the tranquillity of the baths and gentle hum of the sea with someone special on a British Virgin Islands yacht charter.

Known by locals as simply ‘The Baths’, the world famous national park is found on the southern tip of the island, between Spring Bay and Devil’s Bay. Their unique geological formation is part of what makes seeing them in person so breathtaking. The island’s volcanic past created the large boulders found on the beach and natural tidal pools, tunnels and arches you can work through today.

With grottos of dramatic height, with some boulders reaching 40 feet, and narrow passageways – walking through the spaces in between, and reaching out to touch the rough texture of the rock formations is an enchanting experience. The Baths offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the beautiful, but more crowded beaches found elsewhere in the islands and an idyllic setting for a honeymoon yacht charter in the British Virgin Islands.

A day at The Baths on Virgin Gorda Island is also a great opportunity for a swim and snorkel, with coral reefs that are home to fish of every colour and size and a plethora of turtles found beneath the water’s surface – despite their endangered status worldwide. The abundant marine life found here also includes nurse sharks, barracuda, moray eels, eagle rays, southern stingrays, grouper and huge tarpon.

Later enjoy the finest freshly-caught lobster dishes by the beach, whilst watching the sunset over the glistening waters of the ocean. One of the wonders of the Caribbean, the baths of Virgin Gouda are a must see for your Virgin Islands charter itinerary.
