The Charming Crescent-Shaped Harbour of Hydra

24th June 2014

Located in the Aegean Sea, Hydra is one of most beautiful of Greece’s Saronic Islands to visit for a unique luxury charter vacation.

The charming island became famed for playing host to Sophia Loren in the 1950s as she filmed ‘Boy on a Dolphin.’ Yacht charterers are greeted by an array of restaurants, shops, markets and galleries found in the town of Hydra port around the crescent-shaped harbour. A combination of mansions and smaller homes surround the marble-paved quay, all remain delightfully traditional due to being listed as an architectural reserve.

Dine in Hydra and absorb the down-to-earth, authentic atmosphere that typifies the island. An old-fashioned, yet lively night life featuring a wide range of music and entertainment takes place along the quay, or just inland in the lanes.

Hydra was noted by The National Geographic Traveler as the best Greek island to visit, and 11th best of 111th islands worldwide. Hydra offers a vacation for relaxing and absorbing the island’s unique character. Take in the peace and tranquillity of Hydra and enjoy the absent roar of motor engines as donkeys faithfully do the travelling for Hydriots.

The strong maritime culture of Hydra includes Kamini Yacht Clubs, located at the port of the Kamini, and several serene bays and natural harbours to visit. Hydra is surrounded by other picturesque islands of note, including Dokos island and Agios Georgios. For summer charter vacations, it can be expected to experience highest temperatures of 85-90F from June to September and cooler weather for the rest of the year.
