US visitors to be allowed on yacht charters in Europe this summer

By Mairead Finlay   4 May 2021

For US visitors dreaming of a sun-drenched vacation on the ever-glittering French Riviera or Italy this summer, there's news to celebrate. Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, has said that US travelers will be able to travel to Europe this summer.

When will US travelers be allowed to visit Europe?

The exact date for when travel can resume among US tourists has not yet been announced. However, von der Leyen said last week on Twitter (alongside her statement yesterday) that it is now "time to revive tourism industry and for cross-border friendships to rekindle - safely,".

Currently, only people from seven countries (which includes Singapore and Australia) are allowed to enter Europe for vacations subject to testing or quarantine. The plan is to reduce restrictions so that fully vaccinated tourists and those in countries with a "good epidemiological situation" can visit EU destinations once again.

These new proposals from the European Commission will need to be first approved by the EU's 27 member states, and it is anticipated they will be discussed in meetings due to take place today.
