The Les Voiles de St. Barth 2015 Closes

By Editorial Team   20 April 2015

Following a dramatic four days of racing, the 6th edition of the Les Voiles de St. Barth has come to a close, with 70 participants participating this year.

With a steady breeze between 16 and 20 knots and excellent sea conditions, the stage was set for an excellent final day of racing in the picturesque setting of St. Barths for the 2015 Les Voiles de St. Barth.

The biggest and quickest boats competed in Maxi 1 class, where Rambler 88 won the four-race series after three first-place finishes in a row, following an intense battle with the 30m Comanche. In a close competition for runner-up, Bella Mente pipped Lucky to the post.

Vessels participating in the Maxi 2 class followed a 28-mile course described as "very interesting" by skipper Jeremy Pilkington of Lupa of London, who took second place, following Selene.

Puerto Rican entrant Lazy Dog took victory to take Spinnaker 1 class, following prior successes. Sailing a 23-mile course was the Spinnaker 2 class, where charter yacht Ramanessin took first prize, despite stiff competition from El Ocaso and Ventarron. In the Spinnaker 3 category, it was South African entry Music who finished first once again, adding to his three other wins from the three previous racing days.

On the 17 mile course raced by the Spinnaker 4 group, it was Claude Granel's Martinique entry Martinique Premiere-Credit Mutuel which secured victory with a narrow lead. Spinnaker 0 was won by Vesper, following five first-place finishes. The winner of Non-Spinnaker class was L'esperance.

In the Multi-hull class, it was Phaedo 3 who continued to show fine form on a new 43-mile course, winning again for the fourth time in four races.

In Melges 24s, the St. Martin team of Budget Marine GILL topped the leader board on the event's closing day.

A glitzy prize giving ceremony saw Rambler 88's owner and crew collect his prize, celebrated with champagne at a party for all competitors.
