Superyacht Industry Called to Help Victims in Vanuatu

By Editorial Team   18 March 2015

Members of the superyacht community are being asked to help the devastation in Vanuatu caused by a cyclone which occurred last Friday.

YachtAid Global are organising the relief efforts, urgently requesting any superyachts in the Asia Pacific region to help deliver aid and donations (either of aid or monetary value). The cyclone has had a devastating effect on Vanuatu, making tens of thousands homeless and hitting the most densely populated islands of Tanna and Efate most severely.

Speaking on the appeal, advisor at YachtAidGlobal Dhardra Blake commented, “Please help us help the people of Vanuatu, devastated by Cyclone Pam. Over 80 islands were directly hit – the largest cyclone ever on that region.”

It is particularly challenging to reach the remote islands of the archipelago (such as Moso), so any help getting fresh water, food and shelter equipment to the now homeless residents of these areas would have a significant effect.

YachtAid Global are currently matching any donations up to $5,000/€4712 and are requesting any vessels located in Auckland, New Zealand, Australia or nearby to Vanuatu please contact info@yachtaidglobal.org

In Fort Lauderdale on Thursday 19 March volunteers are also needed from 5pm (local time) to help prepare inventory medical supplies at Northrop & Johnson's headquarters.

Over 80 islands were directly hit – the largest cyclone ever on that region.
