REV Ocean embarks on sea trials

By Katia Damborsky   27 August 2020

The soon-to-be-world’s largest yacht, the 182.9m (600') motor yacht REV Ocean, has been undertaking sea trials in Norway, close to the VARD Brattvag facilities where she has been built. Following successful completion, she will head onwards to Germany to be finished at Lloyd Werft.

Some exciting milestones are being made by 183m REV Ocean, as the 17,440 GT superyacht set off on sea trials on her first self-propelled voyage yesterday.

She will be undertaking two days of sea trials designed to test her performance and on-board technology, and she will finish the journey at one of VARD’s neighboring facilities for the next stage of the build process.

This marks the first time that REV Ocean will be operating under her own propulsion, without the assistance of tugboats.

This initial round of sea trials is designed her capabilities, equipment and safety features.

Her crew will be able to familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art bridge, on-board logistics and her performance and handling.

After the next stage of the build is completed at the VARD facilities in Langsten, REV Ocean will then head onward to Lloyd Werft for outfitting.

She will be painted, fared and given a high-quality superyacht finish by the team at Lloyd Werft.

Her crew will be able to familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art bridge and on-board logistics.

Her journey to Germany has been pushed back due to complications as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, however, she is still on track for delivery next year, when she will be officially crowned with the ‘World’s Largest Yacht’ title.

YachtCharterFleet was lucky enough to visit the VARD facilities and observe REV Ocean in the earlier stages of the build process last year.
