Palma Superyacht Show 2018 opens its doors

By Rebecca Bradbury   27 April 2018

The sixth edition of the Palma Superyacht Show got underway in Mallorca’s Puerto de Palma earlier today, marking the start of five days of superyacht showcases, marine-related exhibits and lively social events.

A diverse fleet of more than 80 yachts are currently lined up in Palma for the show, sparkling in the glorious sunshine and welcoming aboard show-goers for exclusive tours.

As always, there is a strong turnout of charter yachts, this year led by sailing yacht SHENANDOAH which, at 55 metres, is the largest vessel gracing the Mallorcan event. Originally built in 1929, she is sure to turn heads thanks to her classic lines and elegant sails.

The Palma Superyacht Show is, in fact, well-known for attracting a high proportion of sailing yachts when compared to other yachting events and there will be some contemporary options vying for attention over the next few days.

These include the 37m/121ft sailing yacht MOONBIRD. With a successful regatta history, the Fitzroy build manages to combine an exceptional performance, helped along by an innovative rigging system, with spacious and sumptuous entertainment areas for unrivalled charter vacations.

Likewise, the state-of-the-art 37m/121ft charter yacht SHOGUN from Holland Jachtbouw is in attendance. Her lightweight, innovative design and powerful captive winches promise high speeds, while the uncluttered deck serves as a sunbathing terrace and the interior immediately puts guests at ease.

As well as exploring the yachts on display, visitors will also be able to get expert advice from professional charter and brokerage companies

But, there are some motor yachts exhibiting too, including the 52m/171ft charter yacht TOMMY from Benetti and, at the other end of the spectrum, the 24m/79ft charter yacht ‘Bill and Me’, a 2017 build from Baltic Yachts with a striking exterior design and eye-catching silver hue.

As well as exploring the yachts on display, visitors in Mallorca for the show will also be able to get expert advice from professional charter and brokerage companies, and discover the latest developments in technology and refit and repair.

What's more, show-goers are already checking out the inaugural superyacht tender area and the enlarged exhibitor zone, stocked with yachting companies presenting their products and services. Plus, superyacht marina Port Tarraco will host a happy hour tonight, kicking off the evening social events in fine style.
