Newport Charter Show Begins
The 2013 Newport Charter Show began with a jam-packed day yesterday.
This annual yacht show is renowned for its top quality charter yachts and respected charter brokers. The brokers that have attended this years edition of the show, some based in Florida while others are based locally in the Newport area, have all agreed that there is still plenty of availability for yacht charters this summer from Newport, Rhode Island, up the coast to Maine.
The general consensus at the Newport Charter Show this year is that demand for yacht charters is higher than in recent years, but not by much. The charter yacht captains seem to be in agreement, most of whom have around two weeks of charters already booked for the summer but are still hoping to book a few more.
The most talked about yacht this year is the 39.3 metre expedition motor yacht Safira, one of the larger yachts at the show. This new-build superyacht is heading to Greenland this summer and still has some charter availability. Her captain is extremely knowledgeable, the chef is fantastic, and the yacht itself is as eco-friendly as possible.
Two other yachts that are at this years show are the 42.5 metre Proteksan Turquoise motor yacht Capricorn and the 32.9 metre Alloy sailing yacht Marae. Charter availability aboard Capricorn this summer is sadly limited due to the fact that the owner will be using her extensively, and Marae is still waiting on a full-time crew, so it is difficult to predict her charter program.
The general consensus is that demand is higher than in recent years, but not by much. The charter yacht captains seem to be in agreement, most of whom have around two weeks of charters already booked for the summer but are still hoping to book a few more.
