Charter yachts get ready for Palma Superyacht Cup 2018

By Rebecca Bradbury   12 June 2018

Eighteen impressive sailing yachts are making their final preparations for the 2018 Palma Superyacht Cup, which takes place in Palma, Mallorca, from 19 to 23 June.

The longest-running regatta in Europe, the Palma Superyacht Cup will this year see racing in the J-Class begin on 20 June, while the superyachts will go head to head for three days from 21 June.

Participating yachts are currently gathering in the Superyacht Cup Regatta Village, located at Muelle Viejo with the iconic Palma Cathedral and Palm tree-lined Paseo Maritimo providing a stunning backdrop.

When racing gets underway, all eyes are sure to be on the 32m/105ft charter yacht BOLERO, which returns to Mallorca after securing an undisputed overall victory at last year’s edition. The 2001 build from Bolero Yachts and her crew will be back to defend their hard-fought title.

Turning heads with her sheer scale, meanwhile, will be the 62m/203ft charter yacht ATHOS from Holland Jachtbouw. She is the largest yacht entered into the regatta and her participation marks her return to the Mediterranean after a four-year world cruise.

Similarly, the 37m/105ft charter yacht BLISS is back in the region after four years spent in the Pacific and South East Asia. Prior to her worldwide exploration, this Yachting Developments build was a regular on the regatta circuit and last appeared at the NZ Millennium Cup in 2015.

A yacht with less distance to travel to the regatta is the 46m/151ft sailing yacht GANESHA from Vitters. Last week she took part in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, and, demonstrating her racing prowess, she secured second place in her class.

Another serious contender is Fast Cruising’s 35m/116ft sailing yacht SOJANA. She has made a name for herself on the regatta scene over the years, with particular success following a 2016 refit. Plus, she has recently become available for regatta charters in the region.

The final charter yacht on the line-up is the 52m/170ft sailing yacht Q. A long-distance cruising ketch from Alloy Yachts, she will join the slightly more relaxed Corinthian Class. Boasting a new Scandinavian-style interior from Reymond Langton, she also makes an excellent option for a Mediterranean yacht charter.
