By Katia Damborsky   31 October 2019

On the opening night of FLIBS 2019, the International Superyacht Society's 29th annual Design and Leadership Awards honoured a selection of new superyachts at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale, with 279ft (85m) luxury yacht O'PTASIA scooping up first prize in the Power 65m+ category.

Established to honour outstanding design and construction elements of larger, custom-built yachts, the Design & Leadership awards are a key part of proceedings at FLIBS every year.

This year saw six yachts honoured in seven categories. Each participating yacht is 78ft (24m) and above, and must have been launched and delivered between January and December of the previous calendar year.

The winners of the ISS Design & Leadership Awards are as follows;

In the Power 65+ category, the 278ft (85m) charter yacht O'PTASIA stormed to victory. She was honoured for her elegant, yet masculine exteriors and Golden Yachts' impressive engineering package.

After making her world debut at FLIBS last year, Rossi Navi's 206ft (63m) motor yacht UTOPIA IV took home the gold in the Power 40m - 64m category.

In the Power 24m - 40m category, it was Custom Line's 126ft (38m) luxury yacht 'Vista Blue'  which came out on top.

The Design & Leadership Awards were established to honour outstanding design and construction elements of larger, custom-built yachts.

Meanwhile, 102ft (29m) sailing yacht SEATIUS and 128ft (39m) sloop G2 won in the Sail 24m - 40m and Refit categories respectively.

Impressively, Royal Huisman's 183ft (56m) sailing yacht AQUARIUS won in two categories; Sail 40m+ and Best Interior.

155ft (47m) charter yacht LOON also scooped up an accolade at the gala. Her captain Paul Clark and his crew were honoured with a 'Distinguished Crew' award for their work delivering humanitarian aid to the Abacos Islands in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.
