With the announcement last year that the 2014 edition of the world’s most eagerly awaited luxury yacht event would be bigger more impressive than ever, some very high expectations were held for this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. Taking pride of place in Port Hercules this year was the new Yacht Club de Monaco, a magnificent structure that in every aspect represents the prestige and exclusivity of what is arguably the most exclusive superyacht port in the world. There were in fact a number of new additions during the event with many of the shipyards presenting their newest launches for their world debuts which included a selection of exciting new luxury charter yachts.

As predicted, the 58m/190ft Benetti motor yacht ‘Illusion I’ had heads turning throughout the week as one of the most highly anticipated premiere’s for the global charter fleet. With final interior finishes completed with minutes to spare on Monday evening, her exceptional design was a beautiful representation of meticulous detail and quality that will undoubtedly hold endless appeal to charterers as she embarks on her first season in the Caribbean over the next few weeks.

Every year the world of yachting looks toward the Monaco Yacht Show as the pinnacle of the event calendar and if the activity on the docks last week was anything to go by, the industry looks very positive moving into the next season. The leading yacht brokerages each brought their own individual presence and style, from live bands on the stands to customised tenders weaving around the waters.

Shipyards also formed a strong theme throughout the show, each displaying exciting new concepts and launches, illustrating that demand for large luxury yachts continues to grow. After a busy schedule of producing highly acclaimed superyachts over the past couple of years, the Lürssen team were out in force with two of their most revered yachts, ‘Solandge and ‘Polar Star’ in show as well as more at anchor.

Benetti announced that the design process had now begun on their two recently signed 100m + superyachts, with CCO Fabio Ermetto commenting: “They will hit the water in a couple of years. We are now in the design process, and we need to make some changes to our facility to accommodate thee boats, so we have a few years of hard work ahead of us which we are approaching in the right way.”

A particularly large selection fantastic yachts were located at-anchor during the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show, including the re-modelled luxury charter yacht ‘Icon’ which unveiled her innovative new extension to now make her 68m/223ft and boast a sizeable onboard infinity pool. Although not available for charter, the 99m/325ft Feadship superyacht ‘Madame Gu’ made the French Rivera horizon all the more majestic from ashore.
