110M Lürssen Superyacht O3 On The Move For Latest Set Of Sea Trials

By Katie Scott   29 January 2026

Originally set for launch in 2021, 360.11ft (110m) superyacht O3 has largely been shrouded in mystery since her construction began, but she's now been spotted on the move, embarking on her latest set of sea trials.

Previously known as Project ICECAP and SHACKLETON, the progression of superyacht O3's construction comes right on cue as the industry embraces an uptick in the demand for go-anywhere yachts.

Seen with her new nameplate proudly on display, O3 has already had quite a journey from her initial conception, with multiple design changes, and an in-build resale in 2022. Featuring design inputs from Salt Ship Design and Espen Øino, she is not currently joining the fleet of Lürssen yachts for charter; however, she is already demonstrating all the qualities of an extraordinary expedition yacht charter.

Anticipating an impressive volume of 6,300GT, superyacht O3 will join the exclusive fleet of the world's largest yachts, sitting approximately around rank 34 in the YB100 listing of the world's biggest yachts measured by gross tonnage.

With her catalog of onboard amenities still under wraps, so far, it has been disclosed that she will host a wide range of premium facilities, such as a spa-quality health and wellness area complete with a spa and beach club, along with a master cabin with it's own private study, a swimming pool, an elevator for seamless movement around the decks, and a well-appointed helipad for stylish embarkations and high-flying excursions.

Expedition Yacht Charter Boom

With trends bending towards experiences rather than premium merchandise, the fleet of expedition yachts has picked up the pace, with more charter guests wanting to explore the most remote, far-reaching destinations.

In addition to industry-favorites like the captivating 252.7ft (77m) superyacht charter LA DATCHA, and the military-styled 279.1ft (85.3m) luxury yacht charter BOLD, the yacht rental market has witnessed the arrival of many new exploration-friendly superyachts, with 2025 seeing the introduction of the striking duo of 197.2ft (60.1m) charter yacht AFTER YOU and her 173.11ft (53m) support vessel, charter yacht EMOTIONAL.

As well as the new builds, the ripples for exploring less agreeable terrains began quite some time ago, with the groundbreaking 639.5ft (194.9m) superyacht rental REV OCEAN beginning her construction journey in 2017.

Set to knock 446ft (136m) luxury yacht charter FLYING FOX off the podium as the world's largest yacht for charter on her delivery, charter yacht REV OCEAN will effortlessly combine scientific research and indulgent luxury charter vacations to create an exceptional opportunity to experience the world's most remote locations in a truly unique way.

Advantages of Expedition Yacht Charters

Though Mediterranean and Caribbean yacht charters remain a solid staple for popular charter destinations, it's the more unusual locations that have the exclusive appeal that simply can't be replicated in the Med.

From gleaming glaciers to rugged terrains and unique destinations for heli-skiing, expedition yacht charters open the gateway to a multitude of environments that hold the key to truly unforgettable sights.

Often hosting amenities such as helipads, overflowing watersports toy boxes, winter gardens, and submersibles, there are bountiful benefits to securing a booking with one of these exceptional motor yacht charters.

In short, the benefits of expedition yacht charters include:

  • Access to completely isolated cruising grounds
  • A seamless blend of out-of-reach destinations and optimal comfort
  • Opportunities to be among the few who venture to untouched locations

Booking an Expedition Yacht Charter

Though Lurssen's latest explorer yacht is not currently heading for the charter market, there are plenty of options to try out some of the world's largest yachts for charter.

Whether you want to see Antarctica, explore the idyllic charter routes of French Polynesia, or witness the shine of the glaciers in Greenland, now is an ideal time to create memories with family and friends on your own adventure.
