Made up of 45 exclusive over-the-water villas and residences, and an impressive line-up of top-notch facilities, Velaa Private Island has brought a whole new meaning to luxury in the Maldives.
On beautiful Noonu Atoll, the resort has the stunning white sand beaches and bluer-than-blue waters that make the gorgeous archipelago so popular among discerning travellers.
With natural surrounds, there’s no need for lavish décor and details, and, labelled as ‘polite luxury’, the resort’s aesthetic lets the scenery take centre stage. But don’t let this low-key luxury deceive you. There are paving stones that don’t absorb heat imported from Jordan, master European craftmanship in the villas, wood panelling sourced from Borneo, and Indonesian flower pots.
Created with privacy and comfort in mind, Velaa Private Island is a brilliant option for yacht-goers who want to extend their luxury yacht charter (it’s only a 45-minute seaplane journey from capital Malé). Or there are some incredible dining options to sample, as well as a sumptuous spa and sports facilities.
Don’t let this low-key luxury deceive you - there are paving stones that don’t absorb heat imported from Jordan, master European craftmanship in the villas, wood panelling sourced from Borneo, and Indonesian flower pots.
In the beach villas and residences (there are eight categories to pick from), the colour scheme of muted aquas, browns, and ambers complement the bamboo light fixtures and rattan chairs. While outside, there are large terraces, private pools, shaded garden areas, and outdoor baths and showers.
Velaa Private Island offers arguably the best dining in the Maldives with waterside restaurant Aragu, which raises the stakes with its gourmet twists on modern European cuisine. The largest wine and Champagne collection in the island-chain is also found in the resort’s three-storey Tavaru Tower, crowned by a Teppanyaki restaurant serving up sharing dishes grilled to perfection.
Relaxation is also a priority, attested to by the exceptional My Blend Spa by Clarins – home to the first snow shower in the Maldives. Yet a yoga pavilion, volleyball courts, the archipelago’s only shaded tennis court, and a golf academy ensure those with a more active disposition are kept entertained, too.
